About Me

Aliyu Sadiq is an environmentalist renowned for his contribution to tackling waste and resource inefficiencies, climate change impacts, and environmental pollution problems through innovative solutions, policy advocacy, and research. He has over five (5) years of professional experience working with young people, research institutions, and advocacy groups across Nigeria and internationally.

He is currently a European Union Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipient doing a Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management (MESPOM) at the University of Manchester (UK), Central European University (Austria), University of the Aegean (Greece), and Lund University (Sweden).

Aliyu is the co-founder of Ecocykle, an award-winning organization that has empowered over 25,000 women and young people through inclusive skills empowerment on sustainable waste management, climate action, and environmental education. He has also led many innovations such as eco-toilets in schools to address open defecation and plastic pollution, climate educational board games, sustainable waste management solutions, among others. Previously, Aliyu served as a visiting researcher for circular economy at the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) and has collaborated with other European research groups focusing on energy systems, electronic waste, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). His scholarly work has resulted in six scientific publications in peer reviewed and National dailies.

Aliyu has also developed strong leadership experience, beginning as Geography Students’ President during his undergraduate studies and later leading local and international environmental youth initiatives in Nigeria under reputable organizations, including OXFAM Nigeria and Climate Clock. He has participated in several international conferences, including the UN Climate Change Conferences (COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh and COP28 in Dubai), and has received over 13 awards and recognitions for his work. In 2023, he was selected as one of the young African leaders to represent Africa in a sustainable development study trip hosted by the Government of Czech Republic. Most recently, his team emerged overall winner at the Go Green Global Student Challenge, hosted by Schneider Electric.

Passionate about youth development, he founded the Greener Future Workshop, a mentorship initiative

that has supported 20 young Africans in career development, leadership, and value-driven growth.
